FITNESS LEVEL: DIFFICULT
As you would expect, riding on the rooftop of the world can be tough! Whilst enjoying breath-taking views of the snowy peaks of the greatest mountain range on Earth you can expect to be challenged physically and mentally. But let’s face it, would you want it any other way?
A strong level of fitness will be required and you will need to ride your mountain bike approximately six hours per day for consecutive days. You will be able to throw yourself into multiple solid climbs per day and learn to enjoy the rewards that come with big days in the biggest mountains.
With support and a dedicated training program you CAN develop the fitness and skill level required to explore the Upper Mustang with us.

RIDING SKILL LEVEL: MOSTLY INTERMEDIATE/DIFFICULT
Exploring the soaring peaks and historic villages of the ‘Forbidden Kingdom’ is done on a variety of trails. The riding will include a mix of 4WD trails and shared single track/trekking routes. By the time you begin your adventure you should be comfortable riding most types of terrain, which includes muddy and loose, dry singletrack. You can tackle most intermediate trail features such as rock gardens, small logs, small drops and moderate steeper sections but sometimes need to get off and walk more technical sections (there is no shame in this).
There will be some sections of increased exposure that your guides will have you walk your bike through. Rest assured, your safety and maximising the enjoyment of your epic experience is our number 1 priority. If you would like to progress your technical ability we can point you in the direction of accredited mountain bike coaches in the lead up to your trip.

YOUR STEED
Although our butts think dual suspension is more comfortable, if you’re happy shredding your hard tail we’re ok with that! You should have a ‘do it all’ trail bike with 130-160mm of travel. Your tyres should be burly and must be set up tubeless. We understand travelling with your bike can be frustrating so we also have suitable bike hire options available at extra cost. We will guide you on an appropriate spares list to pack closer to your trip. Here are some examples of suitable bikes for the ride.
