The Manaslu region was not accessible to tourists until 1991, when it was officially opened, revealing its breathtaking peaks, stunning landscapes, and picturesque villages. Despite the increasing popularity of trekking in Nepal, many families in this region remain self-sufficient, growing their own food and trading surpluses with Tibetan traders or lower-altitude villages.
Currently, the Manaslu Circuit Trek offers one of the most authentic trekking experiences available. Unlike many other popular routes, it remains relatively untouched by modernization, with fewer Western influences and commercial establishments. While more well-known treks feature modern products and tea houses along the trails, the Manaslu Circuit still retains its raw, unspoiled charm.
As the eighth-highest peak in the world, Manaslu is drawing increasing numbers of trekkers. However, its growing fame has yet to negatively impact the region. The trek remains a true tea house trek, offering an immersive experience in traditional Nepali culture.
The scenery along the Manaslu Circuit is comparable to the Annapurna Circuit, but with far fewer crowds and fewer man-made structures. To put things into perspective, while the Annapurna Circuit sees around 160,000 trekkers annually, only about 2,000 people embark on the Manaslu Circuit each year.
